Our physiology underpins our ability to organise, focus and motivate ourselves. This applies both to the child who stumbles over words on a page to the business executive who hates writing reports.
Brainsells provides one to one coaching with a focus on the body. This approach addresses the physical components of learning and performance such as visual, auditory, fine motor and postural skills. It can help to alleviate anxiety and increase energy and motivation. This kind of coaching works best as a series of face to face consultations. In each private session the focus is on helping an individual in the context of a specific goal. Moving from effort to ease Here are some goals that adults have chosen: To be calm and collected when I speak with my ex-husband To see cars clearly when I need to change lanes on the motorway To feel relaxed when I practise my golf swing Tony, business owner To eat sensibly when I get home from work Carol, counsellor Here are some goals children have chosen: To run with the ball quickly and comfortably Rory, aged 9 To find the words easily when I am writing Joe, aged 10 To remember what I know when I am in the exam room Robert, aged 10 Whilst verbal goals act as a clear focus for a session they are not always necessary, especially with young children. Sometimes the priority is simply to have a stronger sense of one’s physical body and the space around. This can help with listening, focus, fine motor skills and social interaction. Getting your body behind your brain The personal challenges represented by the goal are explored and addressed through a ‘before and after’ process called a balance. A balance may include simple movements and techniques such as tapping, holding and tracing certain points on the body. Many of these are based on the principles of Educational Kinesiology, the study of movement and its relationship to learning. Difficulties with reading and writing, concentration, balance and co-ordination can often be improved through specific movements that reinforce motor skills and activate certain areas of the brain. Sometimes learning challenges can be alleviated through activities that link back to the reflex movements that babies make automatically in order to establish neural networks. Private sessions usually last between 45 and 90 minutes. They are available in Putney, south west London and by special arrangement in other locations. They are also provided as personal and professional development programmes for employees. Please call for a confidential chat or email to find out more. Educational Kinesiology and Brain Gym® If you would like to learn some simple techniques from Educational Kinesiology you can do the Brain Gym foundation course. This will give you some tools to use for yourself and in your role as a parent or a professional. | ||||||||||||||
